In keeping with the State of Osun’s agenda to boost the grassroot economy, the AJEMART project has continued to link Osun producers of all sizes to bigger markets within and outside the country. In line with the Governor Gboyega Oyetola administration’s efforts to make Osun more business and investment-friendly,  The project launched nearly a year has seen over 6,000 Osun producers and sellers identified, enumerated, verified and aggregated in a marketplace where they are connected to markets beyond the State of Osun, and now launching  another ambitious campaign to extend the successes recorded so far.

AJEMART, literally translated ‘prosperity market’ is a market linkage service which actively connects farmers, food producers, artisans & medium-scale manufacturers to larger markets within and beyond Nigeria using brick & mortar as well as modern methods. The projects seek to deepen prosperity among Osun’s productive base by accelerating sales of products and exposing Osun producers to the world. The service uses an on-the-ground army of agents as well as a marketplace platform to connect buyers to verified sellers of locally farmed, locally made products and artisans who are Osun indigenes and residents.

AJEMART is championing MSME solutions by removing the inhibitions that local producers suffer as well as expose State Of Osun products and producers to larger markets in Lagos and beyond by allowing buyers from different parts of the world get in touch with the sellers directly without the middleman.

According to the Project Manager Clement Adebayo, whose responsibility is to ensure that all the relevant stakeholders from State of Osun, Sellers and buyers achieve their goals said  “one of the key benefits of the initiative is to create and raise employment by assisting local producers and sellers from the State of Osun to increase the demand for their products through adequate market visibility which we believe will lead to the economic growth of the state”.

He went further to say, “In over 1 year of operation, the program has so far enumerated over 6,000 producers, they have been trained on marketing, sales fulfilment, customer service and provided relevant information about entrepreneurship. There are presently over 2,000 producers who have listed their products and services on the platform through the efforts of employed agents across local governments and LCDA offices in Osun. With the AJEMART digital platform, ajemart.com, users can easily shop for agricultural products (such like coconut oil, palm oil, fresh potatoes, fruits, etc.), artifacts, building materials, textile materials, office and home furniture among others; all from the State of Osun to the world.”

As part of the agenda, of the Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola administration to position Osun has a business and investment-friendly state, the project through is statewide productivity assessment has mapped all local governments according to their product competitiveness, producing a statewide list of products per local government arguably an unprecedented feat in the state. The initiative has also identified over 200 top producers in Osun whose products are candidates for national inspiration for entrepreneurship. Notable among such are the locally made Clay Water dispenser from ATAMORA, the locally made Engine Oil from MOYE OIL, locally made nails among others.

Also speaking on the initiative, The Center Manager, Technology Incubation Center (TIC), Île-Ife Office, Mrs. Eunice Oladoyin expressed hope that the move will result in commercialization of locally made products from the State of Osun, fruitful collaborations in various sectors and technology transfer among entrepreneurs.

One of the enlisted producers on AJEMART, Mr. Kayode Afolabi, the Managing Director of Agrikk Matas who also doubles as President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Osun State Chapter, whose business deals in every aspect of Agriculture from seedling, cultivation of various crops, fishery, piggery among others said: “product exposure, innovations and collaborations are the keys to the growth of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. He expects through Ajemart to connect to buyers outside the State of Osun in no distant time”.

Mrs. Victoria Oluwaseun a verified businesswoman and seller on Ajemart who specializes in training and production of skincare products especially coconut oil and whose business is located in Obokun, Osun, said she believes the initiative will definitely result in employment generation as a result of increase in demand for her products and consequently, boost the economy of the state.

AJEMART aggregates sellers in the State of Osun, providing a platform for them to reach buyers like you and I who seek fresh and indigenous products. The service is accessible at www.ajemart.com

Following up on the part I of this release, I like to appreciate the federal government and duo-state (Lagos and Ogun State) for listening to our cry and opening the road for usage during the festive period.

Now, the construction has begun and the Struggles are back, I’ll like to further bring more realities and options to the table.

Protection of life and property is one function of government that cannot be underestimated and as such considered a primary function. The insecurity on the road had grown from bad to worse and I like to appeal to the government to make provision for security in the areas to reduce the perpetrators of crime who takes advantage of the traffic situation.

Alternative route and meant to de-congest the pains of road users while we await the completion of the road, but it saddens the heart that some men of the Nigerian Police Force has taken advantage of the masses by establishing a toll point at the alternative route demanding #100 from every motorist before allowing them to use the alternative route,  this is a heinous crime that needs to be checked, some youths called 'area boys' too have erected same toll on the route and it cost every motorist #200 to ply through the alternative road.

Driving against traffic is not criminal but dangerous and can cause a lot of hazards. I hereby appeal to all motorist who have Inculcated the habit of driving on one way to desist from the act, one-way driving will not help solve traffic problem, it only adds more to the pains and at the end result to hours of non-vehicular movement.

I like to remind the government for the need of towing vehicles, health and emergency officials on this route to help keep hazards in check.

The government should put in a place a project monitoring team to supervise the pace of work on the axis.

In conclusion, I like to appeal to all residents of the border town to keep being law-abiding citizens and go about daily activities with the positive thought that the pain is just for a while.

Opera Ads is a fast-growing online advertising platform that seamlessly integrates into the Opera product portfolio and its 350 million global users. The company has recently announced the addition of new ad units that will help Nigerian advertisers increase engagement with their target audiences and maximize the performance of their online campaigns.

In traditional online advertising, marketers tend to redirect users to a landing page where they need to navigate a number of clicks to reach a call-to-action button for what they need, such as contact information, online chats, or just the phone number of a business. Unfortunately, these action buttons are often not integrated with apps or phone functions, forcing the user to copy and paste numbers and email addresses, or memorize a phone number and a code to be able to complete the desired action.

The new ad units in Opera Ads are seamlessly integrated with apps and smartphone functionalities, removing the amount of clicks needed and improving the experience of both the advertiser and the user. This means that people no longer need to remember phone numbers or copy and paste email addresses or annoying codes to get the information or service they need. These ad units are automatically integrated with popular services such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger and allow interaction through formats like USSD, SMS messaging, or via phone calls.

Opera Ads is changing the digital landscape of mobile advertisement within Opera’s key markets,” said Per Wetterdal, VP of Global Business Development at Opera. “The new ad units are unique to the mobile ad ecosystem, and provide access to Opera’s massive user base of more than 350 million users.”

New and unique ad units in Opera Ads

Expanding beyond browsers

Opera has set new growth plans worldwide by expanding its product portfolio beyond mobile applications and introducing new innovative online marketing platforms such as Opera Ads, OLeads and OList. To save the world’s oceans and water resources, more effective tools are needed to tackle pollution. Important answers on how to achieve this are expected from a new pilot project in Dan Nang, Vietnam, where the Source-to-Sea approach will be used, with collaboration between communities upstream and at sea-level. The initiative comes from the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The Source-to-Sea approach is gaining more and more attention around the world as a promising way to combat water pollution, since it integrates land, freshwater, and marine resource management, taking into account new research on the complex interlinkages between different ecosystems. The concept will now be applied at the Vu Gia – Thu Bon, which is the ninth-largest river basin in Viet Nam and stands out as the only large river system in Central Viet Nam discharging into the East Sea near Hoi An. Upstream land and water use can have a disproportionate impact on estuaries and coastal environments. Plastic pollution is a scourge in many of the world’s river basins, including those in Viet Nam and an effective holistic approach is needed to manage this form of pollution from land to river and on to the sea.

To address and tackle these challenges IUCN, SIWI and the People’s Committees of Quang Nam Province and Da Nang City organized a stakeholder engagement workshop “Foundations for Source-to-Sea Management: Addressing Solid Waste in Vu Gia – Thu Bon River Basin, Viet Nam” in Ho An City on 14 December.

The local stakeholders decided to initially focus on solid waste, in line with a strong commitment from Quang Nam, Da Dang, and the Government of Viet Nam to combat plastic pollution. At the workshop, the project’s Joint Coordination Committee presented initial results from the Vu Gia – Thu Bon plastic waste flow assessment. Representatives of Viet Nam Urban Environment Company (URENCO) gave their opinions on the solutions that might exist and discussed their experiences from “waste auditing” at a household level in Cu Lao Cham

The participants also used innovative tools from SIWI, such as its new Source-to-Sea Framework for Marine Litter Prevention and Implementing the Source-to-Sea Approach: Guide for Practitioners, the first of its kind. More activities will follow in the project to engage stakeholders and build capacity to improve the management of plastic waste.

The source-to-sea framework for marine litter prevention emphasizes the connection and interdependence of river basins and coastal areas and holistically addresses management of land, freshwater, and marine systems to gain control of plastic waste, preventing it from entering freshwater and marine environments. The approach is spearheaded by the Action Platform for Source-to-Sea Management (S2S Platform), of which both SIWI and IUCN are members, with the financial support of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

OPay a provider of payment, ride-hailing, food delivery and loan services have been given approval by Nigeria’s Apex Bank Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to commence international money transfer in Nigeria. With the approval, OPay will start facilitating remittance B2B, B2P and P2P remittance services into Nigeria. This is coming off the heels of the earlier announced $50 million fundraised from major venture capitalist some months ago.

“The plan is to distort the remittance space and ensure that international money transfer into Nigeria is safer, faster and more affordable” according to Kunle Olamuyiwa, Director of Remittances Services at OPay. With OPay’s infrastructure in Nigeria, it will be easier and faster for global remittance companies to partner with OPay to help their customers to receive money from their business partners, customers and loved ones directly into their OPay wallet and any bank account or mobile wallet in Nigeria. Also, recipients can go cash out their funds from their OPay wallets at any of over 100,000 OPay mobile money agents in Nigeria.

“We are already working with major global remittance companies around the world and will start facilitating remittances to Nigeria with these partners, ensuring the best fees and exchange rates, speed and security,” said Kunle.

When asked how this will benefit the recipients of money transfers in Nigeria, Kunle said “ There is a plan to commence a big-bang promo in December with lots of prices for recipients of money transfer who receive their money directly into their OPay wallets. I can only advise everyone who has families around the world to get an OPay Wallet. They will get better value for these funds doing transfers to any bank, paying their bills, buying food and also using our on-demand transport services i.e. Oride, OBus and Otrike. And on top of all, they can channel unused funds to OWealth and earn interest on it daily. It is indeed better times for recipients of international money transfers in Nigeria”

OPay launched its mobile payment service in August 2018, creating infrastructure on which the company is now also adding new services. The agent-centric mobile payment operation focused on reaching the massive unbanked population of Nigeria. Currently, OPay has expanded into other verticals like ride-hailing (ORide and OTrike), and online food delivery (OFood), as well as facilitating access to third-party provided microloans (OKash) and wealth management (OWealth) and there will be more to come in the coming months.
